Punkintown

WOW! It has been 15 years since Punkintown Smith started his journey in the Rodeo business. He will tell you he has been “rode hard and been put up wet” but there is nothing he would rather be doing than making people laugh from his stage, the rodeo arena. Let’s take a few minutes to visit what makes his job so special to him.

“I’ve been a comedian all my life,” states Punkintown. “We had lots of females in our family and I had to do something to get some attention!” Wherever there was a crowd, Punkintown was sure to be smack in the middle of it telling tales and funny stories. Soon the crowds grew to thousands and were coupled with entertainers such as Willie Nelson, Patty Lovelace, Aaron Tippin and many more. He first realized his comedic potential when he was at basic training. He and a buddy were goofing off and Punkintown was doing a fine impression of his drill Sergeant… when he happened to walk in the door and catch him! “Private Hillbilly”, said the Sergeant, “You think you’re funny? Let’s see how funny you are!” The Sergeant then had him perform for other companies for $50 per show and the Sergeant kept the money! Needless to say the story goes on and the Sergeant is no longer Punkintown’s agent.

Punkintown has come a long way since his days in the army. He now performs at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. He has also been at the Southeast PRCA Circuit Finals in Brighton, Florida and the Dodge National Circuit Finals in Pocatello, Idaho. Punkintown enjoys providing an island of safety for the cowboys while keeping the audience in stitches between rides. Punkintown has performed with some of the top rodeos in the country.

Punkintown combines clean hometown humor with stories that the young and old can relate to. This has made Punkintown a favorite as a conference and motivational speaker and of course rodeos nation wide. His various talents make him more than a clown, he is a rodeo entertainer. One of his greatest passions is to work with the Rodeo Committees in giving a full service effort to make their rodeo the best it can be. He loves working with the media to help get the word out to the community. In 2008 Punkintown worked hard to help raise awareness for Cancer with the Tough Enough To Wear Pink campaign. At Cheyenne Frontier Days, Punkintown personally raised $12,000 by daring his Cowboy counterparts to allow him to cut their hair. World Champion Frank Thompson's cut brought over $1400. Punkintown now claims to have the most costly hair cut in Cheyenne Wyoming. In Fact he is already planning his new profession after he retires from the rodeo business… Barbering. He was not a trained barber but after 26 hair cuts, he claims to be a professional, at least in the GI and Mohawk cut. Yeeeeee Haw! Simply put Punkintown will do what it takes to make a difference at your rodeo and in your community.
 
“Laughter does good like a medicine”, says Punkintown, “and I want everyone to get a good dose.” Inside and out of the arena Punkintown looks forward to working with you to take your rodeo to the next level.
